Eric Wan, MPH, MBA

Biography

Eric Wan is a native Marylander who enjoys spending his time hiking anywhere he can. He is earning his Master of Public Health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health and his Master of Business Administration from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins. He received Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Johns Hopkins University, where he was on a prestigious 4-year research fellowship. Subsequently, Eric joined the National Institutes of Health on a research training award. He continued to work with Hopkins part-time, managing outcomes studies in Ecuador and consulting in Colombia. Later, Eric returned to Hopkins for two years as a research fellow in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where he continued his international work. Eric’s work overseas and at Hopkins generates evidence supporting the value of care in chronic neuropathy and pain, surgery, and ophthalmology. He frequently consults for inter-governmental agencies and nonprofits in order to provide technical expertise in evidence generation.

While overseas, Eric became inspired to imagine how healthcare systems can embrace holistic and compassionate care. In Ecuador, Eric worked closely with a nun who operated a colorful residential hospital for people suffering from leprosy and disabilities. Every year since 2013, Eric has returned to live in the emergency room. The hospital’s inhabitants, nurses, internist, and complementary and alternative medicine practitioners taught Eric to care for people compassionately and holistically in order to help them live a life of dignity. Eric strives to bring that same passion to his work at Whole Systems Healthcare as Chief Operating Officer, where his focus will be on strategy, market and patient access, and developing clinics and treatment centers.
